When one person experiences a mental health crisis, its impact reverberates throughout their entire family.  Mental illness, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress, and other emotional and behavioral issues, affect the family system and require family involvement for effective support of the individual’s recovery.

At Karla Smith Behavioral Health (KSBH), we emphasize a treatment philosophy that incorporates our clients’ family support system.  As we work individually to help clients meet their goals, we also provide services to family members to improve strained relationships, educate families about mental health conditions, and strengthen the overall health and well-being of the family system.

KSBH is a family founded and family led organization that was established in memory of Karla Smith, daughter of Tom and Fran Smith and twin sister of Kevin Smith.  At the age of 26, Karla died by suicide following many years of battling bipolar disorder.  In her memory, we provide community support and education to those families and institutions impacted by suicide.  Our clinicians are skilled in helping families navigate the complex grief process associated with a loved ones’ mental illness.
